Chevraya Zach

Zach, our chevraya for seventh and eighth graders, focuses on taking to the chanichim, the children, to the next rung on the Bnei Akiva ladder. Chevraya Alef, the first rung, instilled within the chanichim the basic love and ideals of Bnei Akiva, but zach advances the chanichim to the next level: teaching the chanichim how to turn that love and desire for Torah and Israel into a reality. At this stage in their Bnei Akiva experience, chanichim in zach are taught about the actual idea of making aliyah to Israel, and how important aliyah is. Although there is no Snif for zach, the chanichim still form a wonderful connection with their madrichim, by attending many activities scheduled throughout the year. Since they are older, the chanichim in zach are introduced to intercity shabbatonim -- Shabbatonim when Chicago either hosts other chanichim from their region, or Chicago travels to other regions, making connections with chanichim around the U.S. In addition, Tishes are added to the list of scheduled events for zach. At a tish, all the chanichim gather around the table on a Friday night and sing their hearts out. A tish quickly becomes a favorite of every chanich. The love and feeling felt at a tish is truly overwhelming. Staying connected to Bnei Akiva during one’s seventh and eighth grade years is imperative to one day, be’ezrat Hashem, rising further up the ladder to become more involved in Bnei Akiva and ultimately reaching the top rung of the ladder: making aliyah.
